Alumna Judge Stars in Reality TV Show

Long a hard-charging, trailblazing star in California legal and civil rights circles, retired Judge LaDoris Cordell '71 is becoming a nationally recognized name thanks to her new Fox show, "You the Jury." Northern California’s first African-American judge — known for her direct, no-nonsense manner — will preside over civil cases in her reality TV show.

Judge Cordell was also recently one of 43 Bay Area lawmakers, activists, immigrants, lawyers, engineers, environmentalists, and self-styled revolutionaries highlighted in the February 2017 issue of San Francisco Magazine for preparing to take on the Donald Trump presidency.

Judge Cordell will also be recognized at Reunion as the 2017 Horace Mann Alumni Awardee

Lisa Wellmann ’65

Lisa (Zetumer) Wellman ’65 was just elected Washington State Senator. President Barack Obama endorsed Wellman in her race for state Senate in the 41st Legislative District. Wellman is among a select group of state legislative candidates from around the country to be endorsed by the President.

“I am honored to be endorsed by President Obama,” said Wellman. “The voters of our district have supported the president every time that he has run and to have his support now is a powerful message about the importance of our district electing a state senator who stands up for democratic values like education, a clean environment, and respecting the rights of all our residents.

Wellman has worked across Washington state in support of economic development and micro-enterprise in addition to her career in high tech. She is currently on the state’s Public Works Board and board of Partners for Rural Washington.
